Why we started StoryTime

We learned this the hard way. By the time we thought to hit record, some of the voices we loved most were already gone. StoryTime exists so your family never has to say "I wish we had."

Who it's for

StoryTime is for families who refuse to let love
ones fade

A parent or grandparent whose stories deserve to outlast them. A milestone birthday or anniversary that calls for more than a party. A family spread across the country, looking for something that holds them together. Or a family that's recently been reminded that time is not guaranteed.

If you've ever thought "someone should record this" — you're who we built this for.

FAQ

Questions families ask before they book

My parent is shy and says they “don’t have anything interesting to say.” Will this work?

This is the most common thing we hear — and the people who say it almost always end up with the richest films. Our team is trained to draw out stories through conversation, not interrogation. We don’t hand anyone a script. We just talk, and the stories come.

Where do you travel, and is travel included?

We film across the country. Travel is included within our standard service area and quoted transparently outside of it — no surprises after you book.

How long does the whole process take?

Filming is typically a single day. Editing and production take a few weeks, and we’ll keep you updated throughout. You’ll get a clear timeline when you book.

Can we include old photos and home videos?

Yes. We weave in photographs, old footage, music, and memorabilia. Bring what you have — we’ll make it part of the film.

What if our family is spread out across the country?

That’s one of the most common reasons families choose StoryTime — to create something that connects everyone, wherever they are. We’ll work with you on logistics, and the finished film is easy to share with relatives anywhere.

How is this different from writing a life history book?

A book captures the words. A StoryTime film captures the person — their voice, their expressions, the way they tell it. The two aren’t competitors; many families do both. But only one lets your grandchildren feel like they’re in the room.

Is filming awkward? My family isn’t “on camera” people.

Almost no one is, and that’s the point. Our team’s entire job is making people forget the cameras are there. Within a few minutes, it just feels like a good conversation.

What is a life story video?

A life story video is a professionally filmed interview with a parent or grandparent about their life, edited into a finished film with photos, home footage and music. It preserves their voice, face and stories for future generations.

What is the difference between the Interview, Story and Premiere films?

The Interview is a full day of filming delivered as a rough cut. The Story adds photos, footage, b-roll and music for a complete biography video. The Premiere includes up to two days of filming and interviews with family members for a full family legacy video.

Can a life story film be given as a gift?

Yes. Many families give a life story film for a milestone birthday, an anniversary or a family reunion. It is a gift the whole family can watch, share and keep.

What does it cost, and is there a payment plan?

Films start at $4000 and are priced by scope — Interview, Story, or Premiere. Yes, we offer payment plans, and many families split the cost among siblings. We’ll walk you through options on your free consultation.

Where does the filming happen?

We come to you. Most families film at home, where everyone is most comfortable, but we can film anywhere meaningful to the story.

How long is the finished film?

It depends on the tier and the life. A Chapter film is shorter and focused; a full Story documentary captures the complete arc. Every film is edited for impact, not length.

Who owns the final film?

You do. It’s yours to keep, share with family, and pass down however you choose.

What if we wait, and then it’s too late?

We won’t pretend timing doesn’t matter — it does. If you’re reading this, the moment is now, while the stories are still here to tell. We’ll move at the pace your family needs.

Is filming awkward? My family isn’t “on camera” people.

Almost no one is, and that’s the point. Our team’s entire job is making people forget the cameras are there. Within a few minutes, it just feels like a good conversation.

How do we get started?

Click “Start Their Story” and tell us a little about who you want to capture. We’ll set up a call to understand your family and recommend the right approach.

Do you film life story videos in Utah and other states?

Yes. StoryTime is based in American Fork, Utah, and films families throughout Utah County, Salt Lake County and Davis County. We also travel to families in Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Texas, Kansas, California, Oregon and Washington.

How should we prepare for the filming day?

There is no script to write or equipment to set up. Gather old photos, home videos and keepsakes you want included, and choose a comfortable place to film. Our Story Guide leads the conversation from there.
